I mean has this ever happened?
Because I am the most un – photogenic ( if thats a word) person you will ever meet. I look completely different, compared to real life & a photo image I look like one is normal me and the other is my ugly twin =(
I really want to take photography, because I like photos like these:

So is there a unit in photography were you will do photos of yourself?

I took 2 photography classes in college and no I never had to take pictures of myself. I think you could do that as an assignment, but I doubt they would make you. You might have to get your picture taken by other people in the class, pair up and you shoot them then they shoot you. Eventually you may have to get your picture taken, but it’s worth it in the end. One painful pic shouldn’t stop you from going for it.

When I took photography, it was more of pictures like the ones you posted, very few portrait shots, and never any of yourself. But you could check with the teacher, and I am sure they will give you a course breakdown of what you will be expected to do during the class.

I know that lots of people do take pictures of themselves in photography classes but generally it’s freelance. There may be one where you are required to take pictures of yourself because that is the topic but I’m sure that you can ask your teacher if you can do something else if you really aren’t comfortable with it; I’m sure he/she will say yes because photography teachers are generally understanding and laid back. I too hate taking pictures of myself :-/

You would need mirrors (for reflection) and proper lighting. And a knowledge of how to use them. There is also trick photography with props and tripods.
